The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has alleged that more than 7,900 names have been removed from the electoral rolls in Mokokchung district during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The claim was made at a press conference at Elate Hall in Mokokchung on Wednesday, October 28, held on the instructions of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) as part of the party's "Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao" campaign.
The numbers Congress cited
AICC observer Pranav Shagotra said more than 7,900 names had been deleted from Mokokchung's electorate of 1,56,302 voters, according to the party. He also repeated the party's national claim that over 13 crore names have been struck off electoral rolls across the country during the revision.
The Election Commission of India has not responded publicly to the Mokokchung figures, and NEInsider has not independently verified them.
Reasons recorded for deletions
DCC Mokokchung president I. Temsu Jamir said the deletions had been grouped under reasons such as permanent migration, absence or not being traceable, death, and other causes. He said the party was still going through the data and more would be known after physical verification on the ground.
House-to-house checks
NPCC president and Nagaland's Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir asked the party's booth-level agents (BLAs) and workers to go house to house to check whether each deletion was genuine.
The leaders pointed out that the Election Commission has opened a window during the house-to-house revision for eligible voters to seek restoration of their names, and urged residents to take part so that no genuine voter loses the right to vote. Shagotra asked party workers and the public to check the data at booth, block, district and assembly-constituency level.
NPCC general secretary and Mokokchung district in-charge Akuonuo Miachieo also attended.
INDIA bloc protests in Delhi
The Congress leaders said the INDIA bloc would hold protests in Delhi on October 30 and 31, followed by a public rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, over what the opposition alleges are irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.
How to check your name
Voters in Nagaland can search for their names on the Election Commission's voters' portal (electoralsearch.eci.gov.in) or the Voter Helpline app. Those whose names are missing can file Form 6 to be added to the roll, or contact their booth-level officer.
