NorthEast United FC put their unbeaten start to the Indian Super League 2026-27 season on the line against Bengaluru FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday evening, October 30.

Both sides are still unbeaten. NorthEast United lead the table with seven points from three matches, after wins over Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Kerala Blasters and a goalless draw away at Odisha FC. Bengaluru have six points from two games, having beaten Sporting Club Delhi 3-2 and Chennaiyin FC 2-0, and have a game in hand after sitting out Gameweek 3.

Form guide

NorthEast's last match ended 0-0 against Odisha, a game in which Alaaeddine Ajaraie hit the post with a stoppage-time penalty. Bengaluru beat Chennaiyin with goals from Ryan Williams and Mihailo Perović.

Goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh has conceded only once in three games for the Highlanders.

What the coaches said

NorthEast head coach Juan Pedro Benali said the biggest change in his squad was its mindset, with the players no longer seeing themselves as underdogs. He said he would rather win 4-3 than draw 0-0 and confirmed that Ajaraie would remain on penalties despite the miss in Bhubaneswar.

Benali described Bengaluru as tactically strong with a good coach, and said concentration and small details would decide the match.

Bengaluru coach Pep Muñoz acknowledged NorthEast's distinct identity and tactical versatility, but said he was confident his side could exploit space while keeping control. He said his squad was in good spirits after the Gameweek 3 break, and both teams go in with largely healthy squads.

Gurmeet stressed the need to stay composed on the ball against Bengaluru's pressing game.

Head to head

The two sides last met in February 2026 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, a 1-1 draw. Braian Sánchez scored for Bengaluru before substitute Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia equalised for NorthEast in the second half.

Why it matters

A win would strengthen NorthEast United's hold on top spot, while a Bengaluru victory would take the visitors past the Highlanders with a game still in hand. The Highlanders have also drawn strength from their home crowd so far this season.
