Editorial policy

NEInsider publishes reported news, labelled opinion, and clearly marked service pages such as Teer results. Advertising does not write the news.

Updated 29 October 2026.

Reporting

A news story should say what happened, who is affected, and how the desk knows. Claims from officials, companies, and campaigns are attributed. When a document or a recording is the basis of a story, the story says so. Anonymous sources are a last resort, used only when the information is important and the person has a real reason to fear being named. The editor on duty has to know the source's identity.

Opinion and explainers

Opinion columns are labelled Opinion in the kicker and are not mixed into the straight-news blocks. Explainers give background. They are still checked. A column is one person's argument. A news story is not.

Fact checks

Fact checks name the claim, say where it spread, and state what the desk could and could not verify.

Teer results

Teer numbers are a daily service for readers in Meghalaya. They are not betting advice. A result that has not been posted yet is marked "Result awaited" with the usual draw time. Published numbers name the game and the date.

Advertising

Ads are labelled Advertisement. They do not sit in the header. Gaming, esports, and lifestyle brands are the commercial focus. An advertiser does not get to review a news story before publication. Sponsored items, if any are sold later, will be labelled as such and will not use a reporter's news byline.

Corrections

Mistakes are corrected on the story, with the updated time visible. Material corrections are also noted in the corrections log. Write to [email protected].
