A Bishnupriya Manipuri song recorded by the late Zubeen Garg with singer Doll Sinha, described as his last in the language, was released in Guwahati on Sunday, November 1, Pratidin Time reported.
The audio-visual of "Jonom Jonome" was launched at a formal event at Hotel Gateway Grandeur in the city. Zubeen's sister, Palmee Borthakur, unveiled the song.
The team behind the song
The tune was composed by Dilip Sinha, with lyrics by Padmaja Sinha. Music direction and arrangement were handled by Bollywood sound designer Saniv Xulfi, according to the report.
Singer Raja Baruah, actor Tarun Arora and Arohan Foundation director Dr Seema Kashyap were among those at the launch.
Doll Sinha is a singer who records in Bishnupriya Manipuri. The language is spoken mainly in Assam's Barak Valley, Tripura and parts of Manipur, as well as in Bangladesh.
'A little gift'
Speaking at the event, Palmee Borthakur said Doll Sinha had approached her saying she had a song recorded with Zubeen and wanted to release it.
"Zubeen da's songs are coming out one by one now, as if he left us a little gift so that people would miss him a little less," she said, according to Pratidin Time. She said Zubeen had always loved the Manipuri music industry and had recreated many songs in it, but that "Jonom Jonome" was an original composition rather than a recreated track. She described it as "a beautiful song" and said she believed listeners would really like it.
Zubeen Garg, Assam's most popular singer, died in Singapore in September 2025. Since then, several of his unreleased recordings have been released.
Family update
Palmee Borthakur also said that Zubeen's wife, Garima Saikia Garg, was still undergoing treatment at Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati and would have to stay in hospital for some more days. She appealed to the public to stop criticising Garima and allow her to live in peace.
Zubeen sang in dozens of languages and dialects over his career, and "Jonom Jonome" is being presented as his final original song in Bishnupriya Manipuri, a language with a small but devoted music scene in the Barak Valley and Tripura.
